State of the Union No.3

These last few weeks have been such a blur. At this point, I’m just jumping from homework to homework and then from test to test. I think there comes a time during every semester where the initial excitement of school and college fades away and it is replaced by this feeling of exhaustion and unease. There is just so much going on. Classes move through content quickly, so I have to stay on my toes. I just want it to slow down. I am in need of a vacation. But, then again, I could always use a vacation.

In the moments where I am not working on something school related (so very few and far between), I have been daydreaming about writing a novel. The only thing is – I have no clue where to begin. All my life, I have been trained and educated about startups, companies, technology and computers – I know absolutely nothing about publishing or getting published.

Moreover, I don’t even know where to begin. Do I first write the whole novel and then contact publishers? Do I write a summary first, contact publishers, and then begin writing? What are the pros and cons of having work published in online journals vs. a large publishing company?

If any of you happen to have any insight on any of this, please do share 🙂

Anyways, now on to the actual State of the Union!

Watching: I watched Haters Back Off on Netflix. I’m not sure if I like that kind of humor, but it was very well done. When they ate goldfish for dinner, though, I had to stop.

Reading: I read All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven. Towards the end, the tears were flowing freely. It is one of the best books I have read in a while.

Feeling: A bit stressed with all the school work I have to do. I have 2 midterms and 3 projects due this week. No big deal. Yes – very big deal.

Wanting: To write. I want to write. I want to write. I want to write. Did I mention I want to write? 🙂

Enjoying: My thermos that keeps my drinks warm all day long.

A Beautiful Anniversary Extravaganza

On a lovely summer evening back home in Fremont, we got together to celebrate my friend Ruchi’s parent’s 25 year anniversary. My friend Devleena and I unintentionally matched and sang along loudly to all the bollywood songs that played that night.

There was so much love in the room and so much happiness. We danced the night away with all of Ruchi’s family. I have the most wonderful memories from this day and the pictures just came, so here they are.

This is us. Authentic. Loving. Crazy.

Hello friends,

College started up again and completely took me by storm. Nearing the end of summer vacation I truly thought that I would document all of it, the move in process and the beginning of school – but it didn’t happen. It was a huge blur of IKEA and Target runs, humid Atlanta weather, and nerves. Lots of nerves. Freshman year was hard for me; the transition and demands of independence overwhelmed me and I found myself really missing home and my family. I had kind friends, they didn’t go out, make bad decisions, or adventure at all really. Most days we would sit and study in our pajamas and then maybe watch some tv. It was a calm, peaceful existence. Partying and rash decisions have never been particularly enticing to me, but I really wanted to have fun in other ways.

Meet Michelle

I don’t know why I think giving outfits real names is cool, but I do.
I know that there are pictures in the Abercrombie dressing rooms of their jeans, and they have names. So, I am not the only crazy one here. Whoever came up with the idea to name outfits was probably feeling kinda weird and decided to be a bit of a troll. That being said, most good ideas come out of those moods so I’m all for it.
I made this outfit on Polyvore on a day I was feeling particularly creative, you guys should check it out. Its kinda fun 🙂
Now I imagine that I would wear this outfit on a bit more of a dressy summer day. Maybe if I am going to go out for brunch or shopping. Since I have longer black hair I would probably wear it up in a messy bun to keep it off my neck. That way I don’t get too hot, since longer skirts can get a bit stuffy in the heat. I also think a subtle makeup look would go quite well, the skirt is the main focal point so a red lipstick might be a bit much. I imagine maybe a light pink or coral lip with matte brown eyeshadows would be beautiful. I put two shoe choices here because I think the heels really make this outfit look super fashionable and put together, but the flats are a bit more practical. Honestly, I have worn outfits super similar to this and I would pick the flats over the heels in a heartbeat. Practicality outweighs fashion almost every day in my household.
I think “Michelle” is super pretty and I love the rose pink details. Let me know how you guys would wear this outfit 🙂

State of the Union

Watching: I have recently been watching a tad too much youtube. Anyone who knows me, will know that I am a sucker for anything Zoella related. But, this is an all time record. I am up to date with the SacconeJoly’s, itsJudysLife, rclbeauty101 and quite a few more. Its basically what I do the moment I get home. OH and I’ve also started watching the Voice Blind Auditions which I find very entertaining. Miley and Alicia make it so much more interesting. I’m excited to see how the season progresses.

Reading: I finished Eight Hundred Grapes, which I thought was fabulous. I am probably going to write a review for it soon, so keep your eyes peeled 🙂 What an odd phrase, keep your eyes peeled. I wonder who said that first.

Listening: Still obsessed with the Dangerous Woman album by Ariana Grande. I also really like Shawn Mendes’ song Treat You Better. Been jamming to it as I walk the miles and miles between classes each day. lol sarcasm.

Feeling: Happy, but a bit overworked. We had a huge hell week last week, all the teachers decided to schedule midterms at the same time. So, in the wake of that, I am seriously unwinding. I am a bit nervous to see the scores. I always am. I think they went well, so hopefully I did well.

Wanting: Since we moved into our dorm, I miss my bathtub so much. A bubble bath would be divine. But, I am so grateful we have hot water. The dorm we lived in last year had absolutely no hot water and it was just awful.

Enjoying: Having my own room, so I can keep it as messy as I like.

Pondering: How days and days can go by with constant stress and how it suddenly just goes away. poof.

Wishing: My dog was here. I’d give him a cuddle.

Music Monday No.1

Over the last few months I have been listening to so much music.

In the car, as I walk to and from things, when I’m just sitting around. I am one of those obnoxious college students who always has headphones in my ears. The one and probably only benefit from that is the amount of music I listen to. One of the best investments I have made so far in my life is Spotify Premium. Those few dollars have given me the most valuable power – unlimited skips. This power is one I treasure and hold near and dear to my soul. Anyways, here are some songs I have been jamming to recently.

Ulta Beauty Haul

Hello friends! As some of you may have guessed, I went shopping 🙂

My mom and I were out buying a gift for my sister’s friend’s birthday and we found ourselves in Ulta. Surprise, surprise. As I walked around I found myself putting some things in my basket and ended up with this bunch. There is something so therapeutic about all the pretty colors and swatches. I really love makeup shopping. I don’t wear makeup on an everyday basis, but I do love me some new palettes. The main thing I have really gotten into lately is eyeshadow. After experimenting with some combinations, I kinda knew what I was looking for. I really needed a palette that had colors that would suit darker skin and brown eyes so I could take it with me to college. The lady at the counter suggested the LORAC Palette and the Two Faced Natural Matte palette. So, I bought them. I just couldn’t resist.

I was also looking for the new SuperWoman lipstick called BAWSE at the SmashBox counter, but they were out of them so I settled for Disorderly and Out Loud that are really pretty. I am quite happy with these purchases. Even though it left a bit of a dent in my wallet, an occasional splurge as a treat is always nice.

I am actually really excited to give these a try!

Happy Hour No.1

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

Welcome to Happy Hour!

Here, I sit down and share a few things that made me happy over the last few weeks. They can be things that happened or things that I did to make myself happier. Often times I find myself getting so caught up in the speeding current that is my life that I forget to look around. I forget to see the beauty and kindness around me, and allow myself to become intoxicated by the negativity or whatever may be going wrong that day. Thinking positively and reflecting on the good in the mundane tasks we do every day is so important. Just taking the time to smile and be grateful makes such a difference in how I look at the world. As I send these positive vibes your way, I hope I make you feel a bit happier as you go about your day 🙂

I love the sunshine. When I wake up in the morning, its so nice to see the sun shining brightly; it immediately puts me in a good mood. Sunshine just has that effect, you know? The birds feel it. The humans feel it. Even the squirrels feel it. Everyone just perks up and goes outside for walks and breathes in the fresh air. Growing up in California, I took the sunshine for granted quite a lot when I was younger. In fact, I would get excited when it rained because it was just such a refreshing change. But, after I left for college I found myself craving the sunshine and that boost it gives me in the morning. The Georgia sun just isn’t the same. So, every morning I wake up and smile because the sun is there and who isn’t happy when its sunny?

Maybe I am an extrovert. When I was younger I really loved being around people. I loved having my friends all around me and having sleepovers. In high school that kind of changed. The people I surrounded myself with didn’t make me happy anymore and I found myself spending more and more time alone. Being around people just made me tired. So, I began to think I was an introvert. I preferred my own company, and found myself turning down invitations to hang out with people. Eventually those invitations stopped coming. Now that I am back from college, I rang up a few of my acquaintances from school – people I knew but never got close to. I am so glad I did that because I am rekindling friendships that enrich me and make me feel like I am part of a community again. That makes me really happy. Not for one second do I regret taking the time to be with myself in high school. It helped me realize how important it is to have quality friends who love you and not just a large number who maybe don’t care as much. So maybe I am an extrovert.

If you find yourself being bullied or feeling unhappy around your “friends”, remember your happiness is paramount. Put yourself first and find people who do the same 🙂

Home is where the heart is, and my heart is where my family is. Last week was my boyfriend’s birthday. It was such a special day, I threw him a surprise party with both of our families and his friends. Everyone had such large smiles on their faces and it made me so happy that he was happy.

This was fun! I hope some of these helped you think about things you have in your life that make you happy.

Used Book Haul

Skirt – Lulus

For the last few months I have been eyeing this used book store that I drive by all the time. Each day when I pass it I consider going in, but I never have time. I’m always heading somewhere, and I like taking my time in these stores. Slowly strolling through the rows and rows of shelves, looking for a title or cover that attracts me. Today, after having breakfast at a restaurant nearby, I finally paid this cute store a visit.

It smelled a bit stuffy, like the store hadn’t had a fresh breath of air in a while, and there was a young girl at the front desk speaking to a couple of older Indian women about some post cards. The shelves called to me and I began searching for my next read (I have not yet finished my current book, but I will I promise). A few hours later, I left with some select finds that will now be added to my “to read” pile. I paid a total of $3 for all of them. I KNOW, it was such a steal. I honestly don’t know much about these books, their histories or whether they are good or not. But, I will definitely give them a read and let you know. When I came home, I looked them up on Good Reads and some of them have some pretty scathing reviews, especially The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane by Katherine Howe. Nevertheless, I will not judge it by its cover and give it a good go. I try to not read too many reviews before hand as I think they inevitably influence my opinion and everyone has their own taste in literature so I may not even agree with them afterwards.  Since I am a super slow reader, I probably shouldn’t buy any more books until I finish the ones I already have. But, I really can’t resist the urge. I just love bookstores a bit too much. Guilty as charged.

What I purchased:

The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane by Katherine Howe – Good Reads

The Mistress of Spices by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni – Good Reads

Robot Dreams By Isaac Asimov – Good Reads
