State of the Union No.1

sotu1As you may already know, this blogging adventure is only over a few weeks old. I know, it feels like longer! To make this blog the best it can be, I have been reading a bunch of blogs and learning about the general aesthetic and content that people enjoy. So many bloggers have incredible pictures, are monetized and look really really professional. Its a bit intimidating, especially since I am just starting out. That being said, this blog is a blog first for me to express myself and second to create content for a larger audience. My audience is pretty small right now, but I like it that way – its cozy.  I started blogging because it looked like fun and it is!

Since I started so recently I would have never expected anyone to have found me, but so many of you have been really kind and supportive! One of the first blogs I read is called the L.A. Dreamer, I commented on it and Danyon commented back. So far, I have had a great time reading her blog and she has been so kind in the comments. It makes it easier to blog knowing that I am not talking to an empty void and that there are people reading it. By commenting, you guys let me know that you are here and we can become friends!

So leave a comment of something you have been doing recently and I’ll head on over to your blogs!

I recently stumbled upon a blog called Bethan Likes, and I really love her style. Her photography is clean and simple, her writing is authentic and she has great taste in books. Her writing inspired me to start this series on here, to share my “State of the Union” as this adventure progresses. Bethan’s series is called “Currently” and I really like it. So yea, I’m jumping on the bandwagon and building off of her idea! After you read this, go check out hers as well 🙂

State of the Union

Watching: I have recently been re-watching Gossip Girl on Netflix. Before it ended, I watched it off and on whenever it was on TV. As I jumped around the seasons, I always felt a bit out of the loop and thus quite disconnected from the story line and characters. Now that I can watch it at my own leisure, I must say I am really enjoying it. I do think that the plot lines in the earlier seasons were a bit more believable, but all in all its a great watch. The fashion is INCREDIBLE. Honestly, a part of me just watches it for that. When things get too crazy, I just admire the clothes.

Reading: After a brief reading hiatus, I am back at it again. This time I am reading The Girl With All The Gifts by M.R. Carey. I just started it; I’m on page 3. So, I’ll let you guys know if its any good.

Buying: Ok, I do try to be restrained with my purchases. But, as of now I have found myself spending many nights online shopping on ASOS and American Eagle. I very rarely buy anything, but I may have made a few purchases over the last few weeks. Two things I bought recently are these ASOS shoes and this pretty maxi skirt.

Listening: I have been OBSESSED with Ariana Grande’s new album Dangerous Woman. I am not a huge fan of her lyrics (why is music nowadays so sexual?), but I really like her voice and the music itself. Its great for drives as it makes the traffic just a little more fun.

Feeling: I must say, I have been feeling a bit lonely lately. I spend all day at work surrounded by grown ups and there really aren’t that many people to talk to. Being alone does not really bother me, its just that I am alone quite a lot of the time if you know what I mean.

Wanting: Some ice-cream would be nice, or a lovely bubble bath.

Enjoying: Being at home with my family and sleeping in my own bed.

Pondering: I have recently been thinking about how we all suffer from similar pain at different times in our lives. One of my good friends is going through a hard time as she has had a falling out with one of her close friends. He honestly was not a very kind person, but she is hurting. Having gone through similar situations in the past, I have been pondering ways to help her and make her feel better. What I find helpful is putting myself in her shoes. I remember how I felt and acted when I was going through my hard time and it helps me understand her a little better. What seems obvious to me as a third party person, is hard to do when you are muddled in the mess. For now, I am just going to be there for her as what she needs right now is a friend and a good shoulder to cry on.

Wishing: My dog and boyfriend could come with me when I go back to school.

xoxo

  1. Aw! Thanks for the shout out lady! I could say the same to you! It’s nice knowing someone is actually reading out there, and watching each other grow!

I know what you mean about feeling lonely, but not exactly alone. At least in your work situation, eventually you’ll realize you’re an adult too, and suddenly the line between age doesn’t matter as much anymore. That takes time though.

What kind of ice cream do you like? I can’t ever resist a good rocky road myself! If you are ever down her in LA, try Jeni’s ice cream! I should go back and do a review, because it’s SO good!

    Cheers!

    1. Yea, I don’t feel like an adult maybe one day. Ive actually been to Jeni’s in Atlanta. It was soo good. Currently my favorite ice-cream flavor is We be Jammin’ at Cream. You should definitely do a review of Jeni’s. Its so yummy.

  2. Don’t know if you read these books growing up, but the State of the Union reminds me of Massey’s lists in The Clique series! Such a long time ago, but this definitely brought back those memories! (And such a unique way to get to know you!) What year are you at college?

    1. YES! I actually read a few and watched the movie! It was a core part of my childhood haha I am a rising sophomore.
